Teaching games
through making them
Domain started in 2017 with one premise: the fastest way to understand game systems is to build them yourself, in a structured environment, with people who have done it before.
We run practical workshops for participants across the state - no travel required, no prior professional experience assumed.
What
we do
Domain focuses on game programming - not theory alone, but the specific craft of writing game logic, handling input, managing state, and shipping something that runs.
Workshops are structured as sequential assignments. Participants work through problems in order, with each task building directly on the previous one. Stuck? Instructors are available during live sessions, not just in a forum thread.
Our tools are deliberately accessible. You do not need a pdfgear download or a specific pdfgear desktop setup to join a session - everything runs in the browser or through lightweight editors participants already have.
How it
works
Three principles shape every workshop Domain runs. They are not aspirational - they reflect decisions made about format, pacing, and what participants actually leave with.
-
Assignments before lectures
Each session opens with a concrete task. Explanation follows once participants have already encountered the problem firsthand.
-
Geography is not a barrier
Participants join from anywhere in the state. Sessions are scheduled to accommodate different time zones within the region, and recordings are available within 24 hours.
-
Lightweight tooling by design
Whether you run pdfgear windows or a different environment, the workshop stack requires nothing beyond a modern browser and a text editor to participate fully.
"The assignment-first format is uncomfortable at first. That discomfort is exactly where the learning happens."
- Tadeusz Okafor, Lead Instructor
